Global boy group JO1 enters a new chapter with the release of their first full English EP, ‘ANIMAL.’
The six-track EP marks a major step in JO1’s global expansion, bringing together an internationally focused sound, increased creative involvement from the members and a collaboration with Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Dem Jointz.
‘ANIMAL’ introduces a new side of JO1 as it is their most instinctive and uninhibited release. The project explores freedom and individuality while breaking beyond expectations and expanding the sound and performance style that have made them one of Japan’s most prominent contemporary groups.
The title track, “ANIMAL”, is a high-energy dance anthem built around the idea of unleashing the side of yourself that is often kept hidden. Member Takumi Kawanishi participated in composing the track, further reflecting the members’ creative involvement in their music.
Driven by a propulsive beat and an explosive performance style, “ANIMAL” translates the EP’s message into a call to break free from limitations.
Alongside the song is the music video, which expands on that theme. The video follows JO1 as they leave the confinements of a “cage” behind and enter a larger, unpredictable world, using the imagery as a metaphor for the group stepping beyond familiar boundaries onto a global stage.
The choreography features one of JO1’s most physical performances to date. Along with the members, the video also features 30 dancers that represent the members breaking free from the structures that once contained them.
‘ANIMAL’ follows a period of growing international momentum for JO1 and arrives as the group kicks off its North American tour in Toronto. The five-date run will continue through out various states before ending in Los Angeles, further establishing 2026 as a pivotal year in the group’s career.
JO1 is a nine member global boy group on the rise to becoming global stars. Emerging from PRODUCE 101 JAPAN, members Sho, Ren, Ruki, Junki, Keigo, Takumi, Syoya, Sky, and MÁME have quickly made their mark with their talent, chart-topping hit and dynamic performances. JO1 have dominated in Japan and are now broadening their horizons to a global audience with the release of ‘ANIMAL’.
More than a U.S. debut, ‘ANIMAL’ represents a new beginning for JO1 as they expand their musical identity and take a more active role in the creative process and introduce their music to a broad audience.
