It has been eight long years since BTS have performed in Canada – with their last shows during the ‘Love Yourself World Tour’ back in 2018. Now back from their military enlistment, BTS have brought the ‘Arirang World Tour’ to Toronto for two sold-out nights on August 22nd and August 23rd at the newly built Rogers Stadium.

Day 1 on 8/22 started off to a slightly gloomy start weather wise, but that did not stop ARMY’s (BTS’ well-known fanbase) from celebrating the start of the concert weekend. Everyone was decked out from head to toe in shades of red, black and grey to match the ongoing theme of the tour. Freebies were being passed out left and right donned with amazing creativity and skill; something K-POP fans alike always look forward to the day of a show. Countless people were lined up for merch, exclusive photocards and other special event booths that BTS and HYBE had put together. Even with a small severe weather watch and shelter in place before the show, that did not stop ARMY from finding new ways to make friends and create new core memories while they waited.

As 7:30pm rolled around, the shelter finally lifted and the energy within the entire venue changed for the better. Everyone was finally in the right mood and mindset to get the night started. 8pm quickly arrived, and the show was on.

The setlist kicked off with “Hooligan”–a track from their newest album ‘Arirang’– which set the perfect tone for what was to come. The setlist itself was a perfect blend of the ‘Arirang album’ as well as a few of their hit songs from previous years. Besides the flawless list of songs, the visuals were also top notch– matching each vibe of the song. The use of multiple lights, strobe effects and fire during “FYA” seemed to be a crowd favorite to all.

The playful, entertaining interactions between BTS and fans alike made the show feel like you were catching up with old friends after a long time of being apart. The boys even recognized some long-time fans in the crowd, making sure their appearance was shown love and adoration. Before everyone knew it, the most anticipated time of the night had arrived – the “DJ Spin”, where fans are surprised with two songs of the night from older albums that are not on the setlist. Night 1 was “Dope” and “Outro: Wings”.” The crowd erupted into cheers and even tears alike – hearing the older songs bringing back a sense of nostalgia and comfort to many.

As the night started to wind down, BTS ended their show with “Into The Sun”, utilizing their 360 stage set up to circle the crowd and say their thank you’s and goodbyes.

As Day 2 arrived, the energy and atmosphere (weather included!) were on a much better scale, with the sun shining and a cool breeze lasting all night long. Surprise songs for Night two included “00:00 (Zero O’ Clock)” and “Outro:Tear” – both songs ARMY thought they would never hear again.

As BTS start their second leg of the ‘Arirang Tour’ in South America, it is clear to see these boys have missed being on stage after being away for years. Their presence and energy have not shifted, and the world cannot wait to see what amazing achievements and journey’s go on next.
