Mark Tuan has returned with “NIGHTLIGHT,” the second single, following “Alone,” from his forthcoming album. The alternative-pop track features Thai rapper Milli, who is widely known for her participation on “Show Me The Money 12” and her global collabs with other artists such as F. HERO and Stray Kids’ Changbin.
Following ‘Alone,’ which is a more introspective song focused on the feeling of being closed off, “NIGHTLIGHT” feels like a shift: more open, playful and in motion. The track presents a more playful and energetic atmosphere, pairing with Mark’s soft vocals and rap perfectly. “NIGHTLIGHT” speaks to the excitement of newfound attraction and curiosity when pursuing what you want.
“Working with MILLI was another big part of what made the song come together,” Mark said in a press release. “I don’t have many collaborations in my catalog, so having another artist join the record already felt exciting. When she sent her verse back, it was completely different from what I had imagined, but in the best way. It opened up a whole new set of ideas for the song, even visually. Hearing Thai and English alongside each other also made the record feel bigger and more dynamic. It became something neither of us would have made on our own.”
MILLI ties in her unique vocal tone and perspective to the record with a verse that switches between languages, both Thai and English lines building a dynamic and engaging exchange between the two artists.
In a press release, Mark expressed that “NIGHTLIGHT” is a response to his fans asking to hear more rap. During his time in Nashville, he went into the recording session with the goal of experimenting with a new side of himself. After experimenting with the track in multiple ways, the final version of “NIGHTLIGHT” felt most natural and balanced.
This song furthers Mark’s newest chapter in his music career as he builds toward his forthcoming album. The collaboration brings together Mark, a global performer and member of GOT7, with MILLI, one of Thailand’s most recognizable artists, known for her fearless lyricism and genre-crossing style. This experimentation is the perfect addition to both of their careers as they continue to work towards their own respective goals and aid to the globalization of K-pop as a genre.
“NIGHTLIGHT” is available worldwide on all streaming platforms.
